Aprille and Eric – The Wedding

22 May 2008

…and what a beautiful wedding it was! The ceremony was at the Nativity Of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church and I have never seen a bride whose dress actually complimented this church better than Aprille. Admittedly I do have a tendency to get carried away when shooting photos of the bride. ;-) After the wedding we went to the UNM Duck Pond for another session of just the bride and groom. I did not photograph the reception on this one but if it was anything like the rest of the day I imagine they had a blast!

See what I mean? She is traditionally fantastic!

I discovered along the way that Aprille and Eric wanted to go to the duck pond because they have emotional attachments to several of the trees there. This is Aprille and Eric under their favorite Willow Tree. You would never guess there was a graduation ceremony and hundreds of people milling about right behind them!

…under their favorite Cotton Wood tree. Does it get any better than this???

Thank you Aprille and Eric for making me a part of your Special Day!

Introducing Brittany and Chase

18 May 2008

Last night we met Brittany and Chase at the UNM Duckpond for their engagement session! Brittany also has a bridal session coming up in about a month and their wedding is in July.

Brittany and Chase are a special couple with the distinct honor of being the very first bride and groom to reserve a wedding date with Dry Heat Photography. It was many moons ago and the meeting didn’t involve official items like sample albums and brochures but based on the strength of the images I shot at Brittany’s sister Brook’s wedding (and don’t forget Clint!), they had no qualms about making the deal official. Thank you Brittany and Chase, and to all our clients, for helping us make Dry Heat Photography a reality!

Introducing Peggy and Patrick

16 May 2008

Last night we met Peggy and Patrick at a pizza restaurant and followed them down to the Bosque for their Engagement session. This session definitely did not go as planned but in the end it was well above our expectations. No sooner did we get out of our vehicles when the rain started to pour. At first we thought “well maybe it won’t be that bad” but after about two minutes we all agreed that, in fact, it was that bad. Rather than going home to pout about it the four of us decided to go back to the pizza place for a pizza and beer dinner. As it turns out the front dining room is all windows and the light was fantastic so out came all the cameras again. There was a fantastic mural on the wall and it made the perfect backdrop for Peggy and Patrick sharing a beer. Later, after we had devoured all the pizza and garlic bread we could hold, the rain had stopped and after a short discussion it was decided to return to the river and resume the session. Just goes to show you never know what’s going to happen.

Here’s a fun little story about how they met…

I met Patrick about a month after I moved back to Albuquerque in 2003. Patrick’s dad was my mentor and introduced me to Patrick. While Patrick and I work for the same company at the time he worked in a different building so I knew who he was but never really talked to him. He came with his dad to help a friend of mine move and we got to talking and the rest is history. He proposed in January of 2007 in the middle of the night in front of all of our close friends during a game night. He decided the moment was right and just did it, but he didn’t have the ring. A friend of ours took him home to get the ring then came back and proposed again. It was a great night! We will be getting married in July and I cannot wait to begin our new lives together and start a family.

DeAnna Dimmitt and Rick Meiers spent four days last week photographing the Zia Classic Arabian Horse show at the NM Expo Horse Complex. What a blast that was! Horses are just magnificent creatures – I’m sure you’ve all seen our wild horse photos. We made many new friends at the show and look forward to shooting it again next year.

Lee Champion – The Bridal Session

14 May 2008

You’ve all met Lee and Rick a few weeks ago for their Engagement Session in Santa Fe shot by Rick Meiers. Now see the gorgeous Lee in her Bridal Session at The Convent at El Zocolo shot by DeAnna Dimmitt and Rick Meiers. This session is in classic Dry Heat Photography style and we’re very happy with the outcome!

Laughing Buddha

6 May 2008

I (Rick) felt like tinkering with my macro lens. The little laughing Buddha’s wanted their pictures taken.
A couple of days after shooting these, one of our dogs chewed this purple guy up. GGRRRR!!!!

Now, I know this one isn’t a Buddha but I thought the shot worked.

Friend Or Foal

6 May 2008

From time to time we get a little behind in the blog as there are just so many events! Anyway, I realized I never posted a follow up for our art show Friend Or Foal that was hosted by the Art Gallery 66 on April 5, 2008. This was a fantastic show and I would like to thank everyone who came out to support us! I would especially like to thank the New Mexican Horse Project who sent out representatives to talk with the public and Leyon Cougar & co. of the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary who made a personal appearance along with his friend – the ambassador timber wolf, Forest. As always, Forest is a big hit – keeping everyone, especially me, throughly entertained for hours.

Jo and John Morgan 50th Anniversary

5 May 2008

On April 20, 2008 I had the distinct pleasure of photographing Jo and John Morgan’s 50th Anniversary renewal of vows ceremony and party at the MCM Elegante Hotel and Event Center.
I have to honestly say that this was one of the most touching events I have ever photographed. The mastermind behind the whole thing was their daughter, Alice Jo Beilman, and the turnout from the family was impressive. It is unusual to see a couple happily married for 50 years and I was honored to be present during this family’s special event. In addition to a large showing from their family Jo and John had many special friends in attendance including, if you can believe this, their original Maid Of Honor and Best Man! The party that followed the ceremony was a blast with special guest and Elvis impersonator, Charlie Franks.
Charlie played an hour long set while Jo and John looked on holding hands, laughing and dancing. Here’s to 50 years of love!

Congratulations, Hilary and Ryan!

4 May 2008

Hilary and Ryan were married on April 26, 2008 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. They had their reception at Sandia Resort and Casino. You may recognize Hilary and Ryan from their engagement session entry a few weeks back.
The banquette room at Sandia Resort was incredible.

Los Primos entertained the guests during the cocktail hour and diner.

It was a great day! Thanks!
