Here Comes The Sun
Hello Everyone,
This is day one of project sunrise.

This session was about a week ago on November 28th and is one of the first studio sessions we’ve done in the new space. I photographed James and Laurie’s wedding almost three years ago. They now have a seven month old daughter named Marley and, as you can see she is quite adorable. They primarily wanted shots of Marley. She fell asleep part way though but that actually worked out in our favor. She looks very peaceful.

I particularly like this one.

November 12th was quite the cold and windy day. I was almost thinking about rescheduling this session but in retrospect I’m glad I didn’t because everything worked out just fine. Fortunately, Rose has short hair that could not blow in her face and is incredibly brave because, while she may not show it, I guarantee she was freezing the whole time. Now Rick on the other hand had himself a sweater, scarf and a hat. He was toasty! I really liked Rick’s hat. It was sooooo… him. These guys are a great couple and will be getting married next spring at Casa de Suenos. I am looking forward to shooting their wedding and, oh yeah, this was at the Alameda Open Space.

Cari and Larry were married on October 17th at San Felipe de Neri in Old Town. Built in 1793, this is one of the oldest and most famous churches in New Mexico and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is beautiful. Cari and Larry are good friends with the priest here and, because of that, I was granted many privileges that photographers do not normally enjoy. For one thing, I was invited into his home which is the large building on the west side of the church. I never realized that that building was a home, I just always thought it was offices. Another thing was that I was allowed to go up in the choir loft during the ceremony! That door is ALWAYS locked! I can see why they don’t like for too many people to go up there. For one thing it is 215 years old and not entirely stable. The whole thing pitches forward with a noticeable lean and the railing is a little rickety. Should anyone take a tumble I doubt that railing would hold. What a great experience though. I love being able to go in all the “secret” places. Cari and Larry are not only friends with the resident priest at San Felipe but with several priests. There were six priests presiding over the ceremony! You may also view Cari and Larry’s Engagement Session on October 3rd at the Alameda Open Space.
To Cari and Larry, Thank you so much for making me a part of your Special Day!

Up until this session I had never actually met Derek, I had only met with Jennifer. Right after Derek introduced himself I realized that we had taken some classes together at UNM when we were both music majors. Ironically, Derek and Jennifer are both music teachers now. I later discovered that I was a better photographer than musician. Anyway, this session was at the Alameda Open Space on October 12th. Jennifer and Derek will be getting married next summer at Paako Ridge Golf Course.
Here it is! On November 1st Esther and Sean tied the knot at Hyatt Tamaya in Bernalillo, NM. Normally one might think it too late in the year for having an outdoor wedding but the weather was perfect and everything was beautiful! To see some of Esther and Sean’s history you may view their Engagement Session and Esther’s Bridal Session .
To Esther and Sean, Thank you so much for making me a part of your special day!

Sometimes the forces of the universe conspire to create something magical. The light, the weather, the trees – the AMAZING trees, the golden hue of autumn – all of those things set the stage for an amazing bride that also happens to be wearing my all time favorite accessory; the cathedral length veil! This bridal session was on October 15th in the bosque near the Hyatt Tamaya. I should note here that this is something that is not normally allowed at the Tamaya, special permission had to be obtained further contributing to the magical nature of the whole thing. Esther’s wedding was also at the Hyatt Tamaya on November 1st. I think it is also worth mentioning that Esther was referred to us by Beth and Patrick and you’ve all seen Esther before in her Engagement Session at the UNM Duckpond. This bridal session was a wonderful experience and I am grateful to have been part of it.

Elizabeth and Arlen are a very special couple. The love and emotion between them is clearly visible and actually almost moved me to tears once during the wedding. I know, I know… it’s happens to even the best of us
. You’ve all seen these guys before in their Engagement Session and you’ve also seen Elizabeth’s Bridal Session (which is EXCELLENT if I do say so myself) The wedding was on October 11, 2008 at the UNM Alumni Chapel and the UNM Golf Course. Despite the fact that the weather was very blustery this day, Elizabeth an Arlen were total troopers when it came to getting out to shoot the photos and the results are – well you can see for yourself.
To Elizabeth and Arlen, thank you so much for making me a part of your special day!

P.S. Due to the excessive quantity of images in this blog entry it may take a minute for them all to load.
That’s a photo from their engagement session on the program.
Beth and Patrick were married on August 10th at the Hotel Albuquerque. It was beautiful but the ceremony and reception were in the early part of the day and circumstances just weren’t conducive to leaving the event and driving all the way across town to get photos with the mountains. On October 28th they got dressed up again and we met them out at Elena Gallegos Open Space to catch some fall foliage, mountains, and sunset. As it turns out we were there on exactly the right day when the few lone cottonwoods were in full color and the sunset was phenomenal!

This sesseion was on October 15th in the Sangre de Cristo mountains near Santa Fe, NM. They brought their super cute doggie and we were able to catch some of the last golden rays of autumn. It is quite a bit colder up there than it is in Albuquerque and this session was the first time I remember feeling cold since the spring. As Rick and I were driving up there we came around a corner where there was a “scenic overlook”. An entire mountainside covered in golden Aspen trees – breathtaking! Kara and Chris are getting married in May at the La Posada in Santa Fe.
